What to WEAR and EXPECT in TULUM

I recently went to Tulum (I feel like I am one of the last people to go) and had such a good time. The vibe, the food, the aesthetic and hotels are amazing. I was very excited about putting together looks for this trip because I have always loved the minimalistic resort style that I see people wearing while in Tulum.

When putting together my outfits, I wanted to stay true to my style, which is honestly a bit extra and flashy at times, while embracing muted color palettes and experimenting with silhouettes. I tried things I haven't tried before such as a straw hat with a formal cocktail dress and a baseball hat with a swimsuit. I wanted to mix high end (Fendi, D&G, Jacquemus, YSL etc) with low end (ASOS, Missguided) and dressy (lace and silk materials) with casual (cotton and spandex) and I feel I accomplished my goals.

As for Tulum itself, it definitely is a popular destination since the pandemic hit last year. I think it's worth everyone's time to go at least once, however I do not feel the experience lives up to the hype. Don't get me wrong, everything was amazing and I had a blast but there are things I wished I knew before going and if any of these things bother you, you may want to skip the 2 hour drive from Cancun airport and do a resort there instead.

1. Brings lots of cash, everything is expensive and requires cash, also watch out for waiters and other service folks who harass you into tipping more

2. Rent a car, taxi's cost a lot and only allow 2 people per vehicle

3. Wear flats, most of the attractions are on the strip which is a small side of the road, often times without proper sidewalks, and the roads are under developed and difficult to walk on. You will often be walking on the street

4. Stay at a place close to where you want to be, one to avoid transportation woes, and two because it makes the overall experience better

5. Stay photo ready, lots of photo opps and lots of things to do! Just remember if you want to go to popular places like Azulik or Casa Malca (Pablo Escobar's Mansion) there will be an entry fee and minimum tab

6. Beware of getting sick from the food, while the food is delicious, it is also very fresh, especially the seafood. This can cause a shock on the body and upset your stomach

Hey everyone! With the Corona Virus Pandemic, I've just been trying to stay calm, sane, hopeful and most importantly healthy! I hope you all are too.

I was planning to go to Costa Rica next week and unfortunately that is now cancelled due to travel restrictions, so hoping to get out there whenever this is all over! 😬 But to reflect on happier times, I thought I would review my last trip back in February in Turks and Caixos. I had an amazing time and of course with any trip there are pros and cons. Here are my thoughts.

The scenery/overall vibe: 4/5- While not as rich with lush trees and mountains like other islands, Turks and Caicos comes off as very safe, clean and organized. The vibe is fancy relaxation. Lots of luxury hotels and residences while still maintaining the casual air of island life. We stayed at an air bnb called La Vista Azul in Turtle Cove in Providenciales. The air bnb was beautiful and clean and far exceed the pictures. You can check it out and book here: https://abnb.me/bUlvpn0kW4.

The Food: 5/5- We ate at some great places including Bugaloo's (awesome conch fritters), Mango Reef, Simone's, Danny Buoys (great for pizza), Stelle at Wymara resort (very upscale American) and Da Conch Shack (my personal fave, Jamaican food). All in all we ate great and for great prices.

The nightlife: 2/5- We went to a club called Versace which was fun but would not recomend if you are looking for a more upscale and fancy crowd. Stick to the upscale resorts for that. Just keep in mind Friday and Saturdays are the only days for partying and there aren't many options. Danny Buoys is a fun late night pizza spot and $5 bar is a popular cheap spot for drinks.

The service:  5/5- Literally every waiter we witnessed had impeccable server. Everyone is very kind which is rare for Caribbean islands. The only bad service experienced was at the Thrify car rental counter.

I loved this trip and had a blast. Definitely gotta go at least once. Definitely recommend renting a car as it is hard to get around without one but be cautious because they drive on the other side and there aren't many signs on the road. We had a few close runs.
