I recently went to Tulum (I feel like I am one of the last people to go) and had such a good time. The vibe, the food, the aesthetic and hotels are amazing. I was very excited about putting together looks for this trip because I have always loved the minimalistic resort style that I see people wearing while in Tulum.
When putting together my outfits, I wanted to stay true to my style, which is honestly a bit extra and flashy at times, while embracing muted color palettes and experimenting with silhouettes. I tried things I haven't tried before such as a straw hat with a formal cocktail dress and a baseball hat with a swimsuit. I wanted to mix high end (Fendi, D&G, Jacquemus, YSL etc) with low end (ASOS, Missguided) and dressy (lace and silk materials) with casual (cotton and spandex) and I feel I accomplished my goals.
As for Tulum itself, it definitely is a popular destination since the pandemic hit last year. I think it's worth everyone's time to go at least once, however I do not feel the experience lives up to the hype. Don't get me wrong, everything was amazing and I had a blast but there are things I wished I knew before going and if any of these things bother you, you may want to skip the 2 hour drive from Cancun airport and do a resort there instead.
1. Brings lots of cash, everything is expensive and requires cash, also watch out for waiters and other service folks who harass you into tipping more
2. Rent a car, taxi's cost a lot and only allow 2 people per vehicle
3. Wear flats, most of the attractions are on the strip which is a small side of the road, often times without proper sidewalks, and the roads are under developed and difficult to walk on. You will often be walking on the street
4. Stay at a place close to where you want to be, one to avoid transportation woes, and two because it makes the overall experience better
5. Stay photo ready, lots of photo opps and lots of things to do! Just remember if you want to go to popular places like Azulik or Casa Malca (Pablo Escobar's Mansion) there will be an entry fee and minimum tab
6. Beware of getting sick from the food, while the food is delicious, it is also very fresh, especially the seafood. This can cause a shock on the body and upset your stomach
