Throwback Thursday: Havana Mama

Havana Cuba Review 3/5

This is a flashback post to my trip in Havana Cuba in 2017. I went for my 31st birthday with friends. Overall, I enjoyed it but it wasn't my favorite trip. See below

The scenery/overall vibe: 5/5- Amazing. Old fashioned cars, artsy buildings, unfinished streets. It was amazing. The country side Vinales was amazing also. Unfortunately I did not get a chance to go to Varadero.

The Food: 2/5- Lackluster. Cuban food in America was better then my experiences in cuba but it could have been where we ate.

The nightlife: 3/5- Decent. I recommend the artsy club Fabrica De Arte.

The hotels: 3/5- I stayed in an Air bnb that looked a lot nicer online then in person. The neighborhood was also sketchy. Research, research, research before you go! I cannot speak on the hotels really.

The people/locals: 4/5- Interesting folks whoa re very nice but if you do not speak Spanish, the language barrier is tough.

I am not sure how hard it is to go to Havana now vs 2017 but it was a great experience that is worth trying.

Flashback Friday: How Baby Phat Influenced the Current Fashion Scene

They are bacccckkkkkk! On International Women's Day, Kimora Lee Simmons fittingly posted the iconic logo with the song "Guess Who's Back" by Scarface, Jay Z, Beanie Siegel and Kanye West to showcase that the brand is back. No word on when or what to expect was announced as of yet but its obvious, social media went crazy with delight. People were sharing memories of their favorite baby phat looks and stating "Move over Fashion Nova" which has been at the helm of current trending fast fashion.

I was a teenager when Baby Phat was at its prime and I must say that it was very much a thing back then. Now looking back, I realize they were extremely influential in today's current fashion trends and Kimora should get more props for all she has done in creating trending and classic looks that people still rock today. In no way am I saying that they are the first to have started these trends but it can not be discounted that they were at the forefront of the modern day urban fashionable woman then and hopefully now with their upcoming lines. Here are some ways how they forged these modern trends on to the main stage.

Logo Tops

Nothing like wearing a jacket with a flashy logo peeking from inside...

Hiphop Couture- Fur headbands/hats

The female version of old school Camron, Diddy and Mase with their fur headbands and jackets. Jennifer Lopez has also be known to rock similar looks. Super fly!

Jeans

Ginuwine said it in his hit "In Those Jeans" and what better way to show off a nice bum with a cute logo on one of the back pockets.

Velour Track suits

Every girl wants to be comfy and sexy at the same time. Velour suits did just that and while they took a break, this was a trend that tecnically never went away.

High Fashion Meets Street Style

Baby Phat was the best at matching a high fashion and street aesthetic. Brands like Boohoo, Pretty Little Thing and Fashion Nova kind of took this over but now the OG is back.

Cell Phone Cases

Phone cases were all the rage when flip phones were in and they may be making a come back but these days they have been making iPhone and Android smart phones look so much cooler.

Tube Tops

Forget crop tops, tube tops were a 90s gem and they are still super cute.

Puffy Coats

Puffy coats have been seen everywhere this winter in all colors, fabrics and lengths but Baby Phat started this trend many many years ago.

Logo Earrings

Baby Phat found a unique way to make their signature logo shine as much as it does on your body as it does around your face.

Its a San Juan Vibe: Trip Review and Outfit of the Day

San Juan Review 4/5

These pictures were taken on my recent trip to San Juan. It was on my bucket list and I am glad I got to experience it. I am sure there were a few things that weren’t completely recovered from Hurricane Maria but I did not notice. Here is my brief review of my overall experience there.

The scenery/overall vibe: 4/5 Beautiful. I would say its Miami (Downtown San Juan/Condado) meets Havana, Cuba (Old San Juan). Icaco Island is amazing. You can take a bus to a ferry or catamaran which is about an hour and half. The water is amazingly blue!

The Food: 3/5- Overall good. Very American but if you like Puerto Rican food you are in heaven. Mofongo, one of their national dishes, is definitely an acquired taste which I wasn’t fond of. I recommend restaurants Perla for an upscale dinner and Oceano for brunch!

The nightlife: 3/5 Decent. Club Brava at the El San Juan Hotel is very upscale and nice. La Placita is a strip of bars and clubs similar to Ocean Drive in Miami or Adams Morgan in DC.

The hotels: 4/5 San Juan has very nice hotels, some right on the beach. My girls and I stayed at AC Marriott which is clean, simple and chic. It has a great rooftop bar and pool which can be seen on my Instagram.

The people/locals: 3/5 They seemed nice overall.

Overall, highly recommended. I think everyone should go to San Juan or some part of PR at least once.
